Cape Perpetua

7 mile hike at Cape Perpetua near Yachats, OR

Spruce, Douglas-fir, & Hemlock trees

Towards the end of the hike you could see the ocean and the waves hitting the rocks
150 foot trees!
So wet that coral is growing in the forest

It rained the whole time but well worth it!

PCP

Newport has a great arts community including a symphony orchestra.  The symphony was not performing this weekend but they brought in a group called the Portland Cello Project to perform at the Newport Performing Arts Center. The PAC is right down the road from my house.  I went on Saturday night to see PCP and they were amazing! They had 7 cellos with a percussionist, pianist and 2 vocalists that joined for several songs.  They had no set list and just played what they felt like playing...everything from classical to Kanye and Adele.  I encourage everyone to see them live if you get a chance!

Lighted Boat Parade

Newport had a lighted boat parade on Saturday night.
Kind of neat to stand on the dock and watch the boats pass by!
Happy Holidays!

Depoe Bay, OR

This helped me decide to extend my contract another month in Newport. I have to spend more time soaking in this beauty!

Culinary Center

On Saturday I drove over to Lincoln City, OR (25 miles north on HW 101) for a cooking class at the culinary center.  The culinary center has events almost every Saturday.  Some are hands on cooking classes and others are demonstrations.  This class, Small Plates and Wine Pairings, was a demonstration class with wines from Willamette Valley Vineyards.  So much fun and super yummy! I will definitely be going back.

Front row seat!
Chef Eric Nelson from Willamette Valley Vineyards & Chef Sharon Wiest from the Lincoln City Culinary Center

We had 5 courses with 5 different wines from Willamette Valley Vineyards.  All were amazing but the Pinot Noirs were definitely my favorite.  The second glass on the right (above) was made specifically for Oregon Pinots to enhance their aromatic qualities (made by Riedel).

Pacific Seafood Flat Bread, Toasted Almonds & Creme Fraiche (’10 Estate Chardonnay)
Oysters Rockefeller with Applewood Smoked Bacon & Maltise (’09 Estate Pinot Noir)
Horseradish-Crusted Lamb Chops, Roasted Delicato Squash, Wild Mushrooms & Honey Crisp Apple Salad, Marionberry Demi & Sweet Herb Salad (’09 Bernau Block Pinot Noir)
Roquefort Cheese Tartlette with Hazelnut Brisee
’09 Quinta Reserva Pinot Noir Style Port
Hazelnut Tassies with Spiced Chantilly (’08 Late Harvest Gewurztraminer)
Gorgeous blown glass candle holder that I want!
