Vinita, OK

Seeing the sights in Vinita!

  • Summerside Winery & Vineyards
This cute little winery was a nice surprise in the small town of Vinita.  They had a very nice gift shop and bistro, along with a nice bar for tastings.  http://www.summersidevineyards.com/

Trying some wines!

Favorite: Route 66 White

  • Clanton's Cafe
This is the most famous restaurant in town because of its history of being the oldest family owned restaurant on Route 66 in Oklahoma.  It has been featured on Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives for their chicken fried steak and calf fries.  http://www.clantonscafe.com/

  • Rodeo Parade
Now I am used to rodeo parades having grown up in a small town in Texas but the people of Vinita really get into their rodeo! Every place in town shuts down for this thing (we even closed the clinic for a few hours to go).  I have never seen more horses in a parade.

  • The World's Largest Calf Fry - August 25, 2012
If you don't know what a calf fry is then look it up. To my surprise Vinita is home to the world's largest calf fry.  My parents happened to be in town the same weekend so we went to see what "the world's largest" had to offer (no pun intended!).  To add to the craziness the power went out that morning so everyone was cooking their calf fries with generators! Only in the south!
